Years 7 & 8 Learning Centres

fcc-940-200-25Footscray City College provides separate Learning Centres for our Year 7 and 8 students. The separate Centres have been purposely designed, and provide a bright, contemporary learning environment for our students. Each Centre houses the home group rooms for each year level and provides a special home base, particularly for the Year 7 students in their first year at secondary school. All of their classes are held in the students’ homegroup room, with the exception of those that require specialist facilities, such as Science, Music, or Art.

Year Level Coordinators and the Year 7 & 8 Program Manager are based in the Learning Centres, which means that students are well supported throughout the day.

Year 7 & 8 Programs

In Years 7 and 8, students undertake a broad and comprehensive program studying all subjects to equip them for making informed decisions when they begin to make choices in Year 9.

A major priority of these early years is to develop academic capacity by building strong literacy and numeracy foundations for success in later years. From Year 7, students are exposed to the whole school academic literacy approach which is geared towards strengthening and building higher order language capabilities of all students to enhance their opportunities for academic success. Through Mathematics, there is an emphasis on building and strengthening students’ numeracy skills and mathematical thinking processes. Success in Mathematics is crucial not only to students’ academic success, but to maximizing their future options for courses and careers.

The one area of choice for Year 7 and 8 students is in the study of Languages. Students have the choice of Japanese and Italian, and it is compulsory to study one of these languages in Year 7 and 8.
